Hello Everyone,

Fall is clearly here now.  The temperatures are cooling, the days are getting shorter, and the leaves are changing.  For many this is the most beautiful time of the year, and McKean County continues to become a destination for outdoor oriented people.  If you have friends visiting be sure to bring them on by the Schoolhouse.  We have truly become a destination place.

Our vendors and merchandisers continue to bring in and display new items daily.  Many of our regular visitors often comment that nothing ever stays the same.  We take great joy in keeping this place fresh and exciting.  The newest freshest part of the Village is the new Bargain Room.  Find quality items at great prices.  This room was a huge success at our Fall Open House.

Speaking of our Fall Open House we would like to thank everyone who came by, and celebrated with us.  It was an absolutely wonderful time.

October Highlights

Bill Robertson's Newest Book

Bill Robertson has just released his third book in his French & Indian War "Alleghenies" series.  Titled "Annihilated in the Alleghenies," it is set in Western Pennsylvania in the autumn of 1758 and deals with the battles near Fort Ligonier.  Long hunter, Lightnin' Jack Hawkins, again is the main character, and he suffers greatly when his family is wiped out by the worst sort of treachery. The novel also features the villain, Dark Star, who divorces her husband the old-fashioned way.  If your not sure what that means you will just have to stop in to find out.  Just as a reminder we carry all of Bill's books and they make for great reads for yourself or for friends on fall and winter nights.

A Taste of Fall
From Sunny Cove Farm.

In the Health Food Store you can find a wide range of their meats in the freezer.  The farm is run by Jerry and Dotty Snyder in Alfred Station, New York.  They are certified organic by the Northeast Organic Farming Association of New York Certified Organic, LLC.  You can learn more about them at www.sunnycovefarm.com.

When fall arrives we love the thought of apples and cider, and the warm comfort foods of the season. One of the family favorites here combines Sunny Cove Beef with the apple harvest!

Cider Stew

2 pounds of beef stew meat
3 tablespoons all purpose flour
2 teaspoons of salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon dried thyme, crushed
3 tablespoons cooking oil
2-3 cups apple cider (or apple juice)
1/2 - 1cup water
2 tablespoons vinegar
4-6 carrots, peeled and chopped
3-5 potatoes
2 onions, chopped
1-2 stalks celery, sliced
1-3 apples peeled and chopped.

In a bag combine the flour, salt, pepper, and thyme. Add meat cubes a few at a time, shaking to coat.  Place cubes on wax paper until all are coated.  In Dutch oven, heat oil. Add 1/3 of the meat cubes, turning to brown evenly on all sides. Repeat with remaining cubes.  Stir frequently to prevent sticking. Return all meat to Dutch oven. Add apple cider or juice, water and vinegar.  Cook and stir frequently until mixture comes to boiling. Cover to reduce heat and simmer 1 1/2 -2 hours until meat is nearly tender.  Add carrots, potatoes, onions and celery. Cover and continue cooking about 30 minutes more or until vegetables are tender. Add apples last 5 minutes of cooking, to soften, but not turn to applesauce.

Measurements: use lesser measures for small batch, (6-8 servings) larger to ensure leftovers.  Hope you enjoy this taste of fall!

Day Long Health Conference
Pastor Stephen Rovics

This is going to be a very exciting event, and we will have more details available shortly, but we wanted to start sharing the information now.

Pastor Stephen Rovics has been a pastor since the 1970's, and has lived throughout the eastern United States, and spent a year Israel.  As a preacher he has traveled to many places in the world, and at times has spoken in front of audiences of 100,000 people.  He has been written up in Who's Who seven times for his ministry work.

During his preaching time Pastor Rovics noticed that more and more people were becoming sick, and his concern initiated him to do research on health.  Interestingly, prior to becoming a pastor he studied to be a veterinarian to help animals heal.  Now he helps people heal.  He has seen people heal from Cancer, Diabetes, Heart Disease, Lymes, and many other illnesses.  On November 12th he will be sharing his experiences and thoughts from several decades of research and hands on experience. In brief, he wants people to know their numbers (blood pressure, cholesterol, weight, PH, blood sugar, etc), but then to see them in the big picture and how all the systems of body are interconnected and work together for whole body health.  Registration for this event will be online with a cost of $10.  A lunch will be available for purchase or you can bring one.  Again, more details will be coming by way of Facebook, our website, and our November newsletter.
